The role of a Commercial Interior Designer

08 Dec 2022

There are many misconceptions about what we do as Commercial Interior Designers and we often get asked what the difference is between what we do and what a Residential Designer does. Designing residential spaces is about meeting the demands of the people who live in an environment they call home and is much more personal, whereas Commercial design is about meeting the demands of a business and the people who work within them.

Common Perceptions

We design homes spaces
A Commercial Designer focuses on a specific business, it is a commercial space that is used generally by people, such as a Workplace, Hotel, Bar, Restaurant or Retail. We tend to work on larger scale buildings and spaces and create an interior that appeals to our client and their employees/customer. Typically, Residential Designers focus on the design of an individual or a home environment.

Design is about current styles longevity
Design is less about aesthetics and current styles but it follows a process that enables us to delve deeply into the ethos and personality of a Business and brand to create a design that is in line with their vision and values. We aim to create inspirational spaces to not only be in, but spaces which puts flexibility and longevity at the heart of its strategy. Working collaboratively with our clients to design an environment to make their business flourish. We are less driven by fast-moving trends and specific customer tastes.

We provide Interior Design Solutions

Through our Design we help businesses to create an interior space that helps them accomplish their goals. We will analyse how a business can use a space more efficiently and how we can create a better experience for those people working in or using the space. In a recent Workplace Design project, we worked with the client to look at how we could design a flexible space that could easily adapt to a growing headcount in the future. Moving away from a traditional style of work to a more agile way of working would help future proof this growing business. The design also needed showcase their brand to their employees and visitors to create a sense of pride in where they work.

We help implement a design navigate Change
Our work does not stop once a project has reached its completion and businesses often need help in showing employees how to use a new space in the way it was intended for. We often help facilitate a smooth transition for staff from their current to their future work environment, thus ensuring that the full benefits of the design are realised and utilised throughout the life of the space.
